Nathaniel has been acting since 6th grade. Beginning in straight theatre, he worked and studied theatre under the direction of Tom Carter and John Sugden in middle and high school at Woodside Priory School. Between Junior and Senior Year of High School, Nathaniel attended the National High School Institute Theatre Division at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, earning the title “Cherub.”

In February of 2009, Nathaniel began studies in Theatre and Music Performance at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT. During that time he performed in several shows, including MAJOR BARBARA under Richard Romignoli, a founder of the Potomac Theatre Project in New York. Within the Music Department, he performed in several musicals, including Andrew Lippa’s WILD PARTY, and Steven Sondheim’s INTO THE WOODS, among others. Other shows included the United States premier of LA MALASANGRE by Griselda Gambara, directed by Claudio Medeiros.

Upon graduation cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in both Theatre and Music performance studies, Nathaniel returned to Califonia, where he currently resides and works. He has performed with smaller companies, such as 42nd Street Moon in San Francisco, and larger Bay Area Companies, most notably TheatreWorks.


Nathaniel’s musical experience began early. He has 11 years of classical piano experience under the instruction of Rufina Gorin at the Gorin School of Music (Gorin School of Music Website). While at the Gorin School, Nathaniel also studied five years of classical flute, as well as advanced Music and Piano Theory. He is a graduate of the California Certificate of Merit Program, and a National Guild award recipient.

Prior to matriculating to Middlebury College, Nathaniel spent a semester at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a vocal major studying Opera with Professor Leroy Kromm (Learn about him HERE). He also performed in the musical group, performing in UrineTown in 2008. At Middlebury College, Nathaniel joined the Middlebury College Choir under the direction of Dr. Jeff Buettner, where he was a featured soloist in several performances. Nathaniel also studied Voice under Carol Christensen (Learn about her HERE), specializing in Opera and Musical Theatre. Nathaniel also has been featured in the Middlebury Bach Festival as a soloist and featured performer. Nathaniel also performed within the Middlebury community, working with the Opera Company of Middleburyin LA RHONDINE, directed by Douglas Anderson (Learn about him HERE). In 2014 Nathaniel returned to the Opera Company of Middlebury as a chorus member in L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI.

Nathaniel’s strongest suit is ballroom dancing. He has studied with the Arthur Murray Studios since 2008, achieving full silver status in all dance catagories, rhythm and smooth. Nathaniel also has experience in jazz and tap dancing, having performed both in several shows. Outside of performances, he studied tap at Studio 10 in San Jose.


Nathaniel Rothrock has taught privately and at schools since graduating from Middlebury College. He gives private in-house voice and piano lessons to students ranging in age from preschool to high school. He also worked as a music director and accompanist for the Palo Alto children’s Theatre, and at the Sand Hill School in Palo Alto, where he returned as a performance arts teacher to children with learning issues, forming the department over his year of teaching. He continues to provide private instruction in voice, audition work, and music theory.
